Free Pattern – Newborn Jacket

Most of the renovations are now complete with the final project – the kitchen being installed this week. While I hide away from the noise I have a moment to post the newborn jacket pattern I promised (posted) previously. The jacket is part of a newborn set including an All-in-One romper and dress. I thought I would post it as free beginner pattern for all. I’m also thinking of changing the original pattern to include sizing up to 18mths.

It has a kimono style sleeve so perfect for a beginner project. It can be enclosed with ribbons or snap fasteners taking less than 1/2hr to make. I’ve added little pin tucks to the front of the jacket to add some interest. This would look very pretty if top stitched half way down to make it slightly more swing style for girls.

A red jacket probably isn’t the best jacket for post photos but I’ve made it as a jacket to match a cute french dress I bought for her. I originally made it with a mock bow but was over sized for the jacket. I’ve since adjusted it to a smaller 1/2″ ribbon which wrap the entire jacket and ties at the front.

If you are new to sewing this is a great pattern to try. Download the Instructions, pattern and image to put the pattern together.

You will need 1/2 metre (1/2 yard of fabric), bias tape (12mm or 1/2 inch) for the front opening and neck line and either snap fasteners or ribbon to fasten at the front.

I hope you enjoy the pattern. Happy Sewing!!
